Meet our farm animals
There is no childhood experience more special than falling in love with an animal and learning to meet the needs of another creature.
We provide this experience at daycare for Hamilton city kids that don't have the opportunity at home.
Young Nugget is a total sweetheart who loves company and cuddles! She is one of the children's favourite animals and returns all the love, attention and time they give her with endless affection.
Nugget and Cotton were both hand-raised by children for Calf Club and lived together on the same farm before coming to Old MacDonald's.
Scraps are Nugget's favourite food, so take some along as a treat for her when you visit her kennel. In the weekends we let her run free so we can watch her frolic—she loves to play!
Pepper loves to eat almost as much as she loves giving pony rides. She is not supposed to eat grass but sneaks a nibble sometimes...if you catch her, tell on her!
Pepper was born at Little Einsteins childcare centre in Cambridge and raised there by Andi, our riding instructor. Together they are very experienced at teaching young children to ride, and Andi knows all the special words to whisper if Pepper gets a bit stubborn.
Her treats are "Big Reds" biscuits and homemade carrot and apple iceblocks in the summer (Lucky Pepper!).
Visit our henhouse to make friends with chickens of all sizes, shapes and colours!
Our chicken flock is still young and just starting to lay eggs—check the egg boxes to find out if there are any for our lunch.
The chickens eat our kitchen scraps for their breakfast and dinner as part of our sustainable food cycle, and also love to peck pellets from your hand when you say hello.
Cheeky little Caruso—or Cruz—loves cuddles more than anything, so when you meet him be sure to give him a big hug to make friends! With his fluffy coat and placid nature, children adore our resident living teddy bear and he adores them back, especially if they give him lots of lovely scratches. Cruz is young and full of fun and doesn't understand why Auntie Gemma and the ponies don't want to play! It doesn't stop him enjoying himself though, and he often frolics in the evenings after everyone has gone home for the day.
Quiet, calm, stable Gemma is a people-pleaser who loves being part of life at Old MacDonalds, especially when someone brings her favourite treats and grains to snack on. Gemma's gorgeous personality and calm plodding make her perfect as a child's first "pony ride". She loves people and attention so much she often volunteers to help her friend Pepper out with giving riding lessons because she doesn't want to miss out! Gemma and Pepper share a special bond—listen out for them calling hello to each other throughout the day, or watch them relaxing side-by-side together in the sun.
